  • ~ Pele's Palate ~<br /> <br /> Pahoehoe 'rope' lava oozes and rolls into amazing shapes configurations. This one covers about eight-feet across. Taking photos this close is challenging for both the photographer and the camera because the intense heat of the molten lava. <br /> For this photo I used a little bit of camera flash to help illuminate the raw iridescence of the slightly cooler dark lava.<br /> <br /> Prints to any size nicely

  • ~ Far Side of the Plume ~<br /> <br /> Brown-tinged fine glass & sand sparkle in the sun between cooling lava formations. The plume in the distance is where lava explosively enters the sea. The glass & sand are blown downwind for miles, which is another reason to always have a good respirator available should the plume winds turn in your direction.
