• This anole lizard licks nectar drops off an octopus tree's berry-like blossoms The nectar oozes out of the little flowers when the heat of the sun hits them. Bees, birds and these anole lizards love it! ~~ Island of Hawaii.

 • Japanese White-eye Feeds on Ohia Lehua
I really like these little birds. They keep very busy all day sucking ohia lehua flower nectar and plucking bugs off the trees. They originated from Japan I believe and are known there as Mejiro. One pair built a nest just off my deck a couple of weeks ago but they are very sneaky, and I seldom see those two. I am pretty sure they have laid the eggs but the nest is nearly completely hidden within the top forks of an ohia tree.
 • ~ Gecko lizard finds a new home ~

This little guy was hiding completely inside this shell, at one point with only the tip of his tail showing.
 • This wild passion fruit flower was a magnet for one hungry honeybee!
 • Hawaiian Hawk, io (ee-oh) in Hawaiian {Endangered species}

Information at this Hawaiian Hawk site
From that site:
"The `Io is endemic to Hawai`i and was a symbol of royalty in Hawaiian legend. The `Io is also the only hawk native to Hawai`i. They only breed on the Big Island but have been occasionally seen on Maui, O`ahu, and Kaua`i. Fossil records indicate that this hawk may also been established on Moloka`i and Kaua`i. They depend on native forest for nesting, but are able to use a broad range of habitats for foraging, including papaya and macadamia nut orchards, as well as forests dominated by native and introduced vegetation, from sea level to 6,500 feet elevation.”
 • My missing Hair Ties ~ Anole Lizard Fun -3

We caught this wild anole lizard climbing backwards up my screen door inside the house today carrying one of my ponytail hair ties in his mouth. Then he ran around the floor carrying it like a new toy~

We watched for a while to see what he was going to do with it. He would twist it back and forth once as if he'd caught a bug, then would drop it.

 • Gecko on a Fern at night
 • Giant Centipede / kanapi in Hawaiian

These insects are scary and have a nasty bite…
I have seen some the width of my thumb and 8-inches long; this is a smaller one at about 6-inches.

They crawl very fast! Diet is most anything they can catch, like insects and even geckos.

This one was crawling up a tree at night, inches before my face while I was looking for coqui frogs to photograph.

My friend was in the drivers seat of my van when he announced that a tiny friend had suddenly appeared on his hand. While I got my camera out the mantis had made the summit of finger mountain :)

 • Nectar Gathering
Madagascar gecko lizards, or 'Gold Dust Day' lizards, compete honeybees for nectar seeping from the tiny blossoms of a Schefllera tree off my deck.
